What to Do After an Accident

What To Expect During Your Visit:

When you visit us for the first time to start your recovery, we will ask you to fill out a patient information form similar to the one you would expect from any healthcare facility. It is essential to provide accurate information to help us understand your overall health and well-being.

Dr. Howard Austrager, a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, will conduct an initial consultation to understand what is troubling you. During the consultation, you will be asked about the symptoms you are experiencing and the details of the accident that you can provide.

After the consultation, Dr. Austrager will examine you to see if your particular injury will respond well to automobile injury recovery chiropractic care. The examination may include testing your range of motion, muscle tone, muscle strength, and neurological integrity. If necessary, we may request X-rays, MRIs, or other laboratory tests. If you have already undergone such tests, please bring the results with you.

Based on the results of the consultation and examination, Dr. Austrager will develop a personalized chiropractic treatment plan that best addresses your injury and how to get you back to your pre-injury state. He will also provide you an estimate of how many treatment sessions you’ll need and how frequently you will need them.

What are the Symptoms of Whiplash?

Whiplash injuries can vary in severity from mild discomfort to severe trauma. The risk of significant injury increases if the headrest in your vehicle is set too low during an impact. In cases of severe impact or improperly positioned headrests, bone fractures or tissue damage can occur. It’s recommended to consult a chiropractor for an evaluation, regardless of the perceived severity of the impact. You might have sustained a whiplash injury if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, even after what seemed like a mild impact:
– Neck pain and stiffness
– Pain in the shoulders, upper back, or arms
– Frequent headaches
– Blurry vision
– Difficulty or pain when turning the head
– Restricted head and neck movement
– Dizziness or vertigo
– General fatigue
– Numbness or tingling sensations in the arms, hands, or fingers
– Persistent ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
– Trouble sleeping
– Mood changes or symptoms of depression
